Open On Desktop
The Open On Desktop feature allows users to open MS Office file types directly on their computers using the appropriate applications. Users can view and edit documents in programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint using this feature.
How to Use the Function
1. Open On Desktop Process
- Document Viewing Screen: While the document is open, use the Open On Desktop button in the top menu.
- DM Explorer Screen: Right-click the file or select Open On Desktop from the top menu.
2. File Modes
- Read-Only Mode: The user can only view the file, and changes cannot be saved directly.
- Edit Mode: The user can make changes to the file, and the modifications are saved as a draft version in the system.
Supported File Types
The Open On Desktop function can only be used for the following MS Office file types:
- Word Documents:
.doc
,.docx
- Excel Files:
.xls
,.xlsx
- PowerPoint Presentations:
.ppt
,.pptx
Related Notes
- This feature only works with MS Office files. It does not apply to PDF, image, or video files.
- The draft version creation and management process can be configured through system parameters.
- Authorization: The user must have the necessary editing permissions to open the document on the desktop.
- Version Management: Changes made are saved as a new draft version, and previous versions are accessible.
